Survivor stories
Isak Borenstien
Isak Borenstein was born in Radom, Poland. He had 3 brothers and 3 sisters. When the Germans invaded Poland Isak ran away to Russia and worked as a carpenter. When the germans invaded Russia he joined the Russian army. They got sent to a place near Kremenchug but before they could fight they were surrounded by the Gestapo. Only two of the men survived, the rest got picked out by the Germans and shot. Isak changed his name from Borenstein, which was a Jewish name, to Broniewski, which was a Polish name. When they were marching to a camp he jumped out of line and a Russian woman hid him in a small town. When a drunk man told the Germans 60 names of people they found Isak in the forest. They took him to the death chamber of a prison for ten days. During those ten days they brought down 3 Jews and brought them back up to shoot them. He got put in a labor camp but luckily he had Typhoid and was put into a hospital so he didn't have to work. He eventually got out by getting rescued by an American soldier.
Leo Heiman When the Holocaust started Leo Heiman's family went to their grandmothers pitch factory in hopes that the Germans would not hurt them because they needed the pitch that the factory supplied pitch to the Germans. One day the Germans came so the Heimans ran away into the forest. The Germans found Dov, Leo's dad, and shot him. Leo and his mom found him later and Leo buried Dov under the snow. When the war was over Leo became a reporter and a writer and wrote many books.
My personal feelings about the Holocaust
I think the Holocaust is a very sad thing. The Jews had families and lives just like the Germans. The Jews did nothing to deserve this. Adolf Hitler didn't need to hate Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, Poles, Communists, people with disabilities, and Slavs. I hope something like this will never happen again.People need to learn about this so they can stop it.

Why the paperclip is a symbol of the Holocaust
The paperclip is a symbol of the holocaust because people from Norway wore them as a sign of resistance against the Nazi occupation during World War II. Hitler told the Norwegians they couldn't wear a sign of their king so they wore paperclips as a protest. It was very risky. Johan Vaaler invented the paperclip but it wasn't the kind used today.
